Termoflex XF 19 mm Thick Closed Cell Insulation for Campervans

Termoflex XF 19 mm is a thick, self-adhesive closed cell elastomeric foam developed for campervans, van conversions and vehicle interiors where increased thermal insulation is a priority.

As the thickest option in the Termoflex XF range, the 19 mm version is particularly suited to large wall and roof areas, year-round campervan conversions and vehicles used in colder conditions.

The flexible foam can be bonded directly to clean vehicle body panels, creating a continuous thermal and condensation-control layer without the dust or loose fibres associated with many traditional insulation materials.

For campervans where thermal performance matters

A metal van body transfers heat quickly between the interior and exterior. During winter, heated interior air loses energy through the bodywork. In summer, sun-heated exterior panels transfer heat in the opposite direction.

Increasing the thickness of the insulation layer increases its thermal resistance. With a thickness of 19 mm, Termoflex XF is therefore the preferred XF option for areas where maximum insulation within the range is wanted and sufficient installation depth is available.

It is especially useful for campervans designed for extended travel, shoulder-season camping and year-round use.

Closed cell structure helps manage condensation

Condensation is a particular concern in campervans because the vehicle body is made from highly conductive metal. Warm interior air contains moisture, and when that moisture reaches sufficiently cold bodywork it can condense into liquid water.

Termoflex XF covers the metal with a closed cell insulating layer. This reduces heat transfer through the panel and helps reduce the conditions in which condensation forms on cold interior metal surfaces.

The material also has very high resistance to water vapour, an important property in vehicle interiors exposed to rapidly changing temperatures and humidity.

Correct campervan design should still include adequate ventilation to remove moisture generated through sleeping, cooking and everyday use.

Self-adhesive installation on vehicle bodywork

Termoflex XF 19 mm has a strong self-adhesive backing designed to simplify installation on properly prepared surfaces.

The vehicle panel should be clean, dry, grease-free and in good condition before installation. Any existing corrosion should be treated before the insulation is applied.

For large wall and roof sections, cut the material to shape before removing the protective liner. Start at one edge and peel the liner away gradually while pressing the foam firmly onto the body panel.

Fit neighbouring sections tightly together to minimise gaps in the insulation layer.

Flexible thick insulation

Despite its 19 mm thickness, Termoflex XF remains flexible enough to follow many curves and shapes found in vehicle interiors.

This is particularly useful in van conversions, where body panels rarely provide perfectly flat installation surfaces.

The foam can be shaped using a sharp utility knife, allowing accurate fitting around windows, structural members, openings and interior fittings.

Low thermal conductivity

Termoflex XF has a thermal conductivity of 0.036 W/(m·K) at 0 °C. Combined with the 19 mm thickness, this provides greater thermal resistance than the thinner Termoflex XF options.

For van builders who want to maximise insulation across large surfaces without moving to a completely different insulation system, 19 mm is the logical choice within the XF range.

Can Termoflex XF also help reduce noise?

Yes. The flexible elastomeric foam structure can contribute to acoustic comfort by reducing the transmission of some mid- and higher-frequency sound.

However, thermal foam and vibration damping perform different jobs. For better campervan soundproofing, use Termoflex XF together with a butyl sound deadening material.

The butyl layer reduces vibration and resonance in large sheet-metal panels, while the Termoflex XF layer provides thermal insulation, condensation control and additional acoustic separation.

Is 19 mm insulation good for a winter campervan?

When choosing between the three Termoflex XF thicknesses, the 19 mm version provides the greatest thermal resistance and is therefore the preferred option where colder conditions or year-round use are expected and sufficient installation space is available.

Insulation performance always depends on the complete vehicle construction, including coverage, thermal bridges, windows, ventilation and other insulation layers. No single insulation material can compensate for an otherwise poorly designed thermal envelope.

Should I choose 13 mm or 19 mm campervan insulation?

Choose 13 mm when you want a strong balance between insulation performance and interior space. It works particularly well as a general-purpose wall and roof insulation.

Choose 19 mm when thermal performance is more important and the vehicle structure has enough depth to accommodate the additional thickness.

For a highly optimised van conversion, different thicknesses can be combined: 19 mm across large open wall and roof areas, 13 mm where space becomes tighter and 6 mm across ribs, pillars and other restricted sections.
